The environmental impact from printer cartridges extends beyond their manufacturing process and disposal. A single toner cartridge emits approximately 4.8kg of CO2 greenhouse gases during its production, not considering the toner inside. The life cycle assessment reveals that producing one metric ton of toner results in around 16 metric tons of CO2 emissions. Additionally, a cartridge that yields five thousand pages emits approximately 3.2 kg of CO2
Recycling printer cartridges is crucial for reducing their environmental impact. By recycling, we conserve energy and natural resources, saving approximately 11 million gallons of oil in just seven months. Remarkably, 97% of the materials used in printer cartridges can be recycled, reducing waste to a mere 3%
250 cartridges 0.46 kg CO2 per cartridge = 115 kg of CO2. While toner cartridges have a higher capacity, each cartridge has a much higher CO2 cost, estimated to be 4.8kg per cartridge.
A typical tree can absorb around 21 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year; however, this figure is only achieved when the tree is fully grown – saplings will absorb significantly less than this. We partner with The National Trust to plant a tree for every 1000 ink/toners collected. A certified certificate will be sent over stating what type of tree and where they were planted. With three trees being planted, they will be consuming on average 63 kg of CO2
One Tree will consume the equivalent CO2 of forty-five ink cartridges and four toners.
